Let me start by telling you a cautionary tale.
I bought a new kitten recently. I collected her from a lovely lady up in Worcestershire and made the journey back to Bristol. It was obviously traumatic for her, first, she was taken away from mum and then had to suffer a 90-minute car journey. We arrived home and I decided to unload the car before taking her inside. I thought she might like a bit of fresh air and unzipped the carrier at the very top couple of centimeters. It took no more than a minute to unload the car, but when I went to get her, she’d disappeared into thin air.
I searched everywhere and eventually found her hiding underneath the passenger seat of the car. She gave me the slip for the next 20 minutes. We started a game of cat and mouse, with her moving every time I got near her.
This is my first cat; I’ve always been a dog person and don’t understand cats. Foolishly I decided to make a grab for her. A 46-year-old man was no match for the lightning-quick reactions of a 9-week old kitten, and she shot out from under the seat.
Now I couldn’t find her anywhere until I heard the faintest of meows coming from the glove compartment. I was looking frantically but still couldn’t find her. A while later heard another meow, this time it sounded like she was behind the dashboard. Still searching I found the smallest of holes underneath the dashboard, too small to even get my hand in and too small for a kitten, I thought…
Panic Stations
Panic started to set in and I decided I needed the help of a professional.
I rushed to Westbury from Bristol to see my friend and Volvo specialist, Gary. Every now and then I’d hear a faint meow. They say a picture paints a thousand words; this is what happened next.
There she was without a care in the world.
